| Sail boats of Salvador |
We were fascinated by the boats that work under sail in the Baíe de Todos os Santos, Brazil. These pictures also show them at play.
Saveiros, transport boats. None have engines, they are entirely worked under sail.

Dugouts, descendents of the native Indian pirogues ...
|
Under sail, the paddles are used as a steering oar and a leeboard.

Even a dugout can be planed! Note the three guys out on trapeze. |

Small fishing boats ...

Jangadas, traditionally five-log rafts, used for offshore fishing. Mostly found a little further north, but some in this area ...

These tiny boats go many miles out to sea. Note the helmsman's seat. |

Modernised, they are used for tourist rides. (Picture taken in Natal). |
